Pier Giorgio Di Cicco
Toronto's Poet Laureate
Pier Giorgio Di Cicco is Toronto's Poet Laureate and he has a unique way of looking at the world. Since his appointment as Toronto's second Poet Laureate last year, Pier Giorgio has turned the spotlight on the role diversity plays in the development of a creative and vibrant city.
He was born in Arezzo, Italy and raised in Montreal, Baltimore and Toronto. Between 1975 and 1986 he pursued a literary career as an editor, teacher and guest lecturer. He edited Roman Candles (1978), the landmark anthology of Italian-Canadian poetry, as well as publishing 13 highly acclaimed books of his own poetry, including The Tough Romance (1979), Flying Deeper into the Century (1982) and Virgin Science (1986)
