CBC Television News Innoversity Internship

The Opportunity

CBC Television News, in co-operation with the Innoversity Summit, is pleased to announce the creation of an internship and mentoring program with the national broadcaster. This internship is designed to provide an extremely curious person who loves storytelling with hands-on programming experience in a news and current affairs television environment. This role will involve researching, writing and/or chase producing on CBC’s supper hour newscast, CBC News at Six, and on CBC’s daily news programs on Newsworld. We are definitely interested in applications from people both inside and outside the world of TV news.

Duration and Compensation

The internship is six months long and located in Toronto. It will begin in January 2007. The successful applicant will work as an Associate Producer.

Who May Apply

The internship is designed for people interested in pursuing a career in broadcast journalism who, along with some previous media experience, can offer insight and understanding into groups within our community who are under-represented in the media. Aboriginal people, visible minorities and people with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply.

Please submit the following documentation:

  • A two-page resume (maximum length) detailing contact information, education, employment, previous media experience, computer skills and references. computer skills and references.
  • Write an essay about your life experiences and why you are interested in a career in public broadcasting. Please explain why you are interested in this particular internship and what you can bring to this kind of opportunity. (Maximum length two pages, double spaced, 12-point type)

Samples of your work are welcome but not mandatory. (Maximum of two samples) Sample work cannot be submitted online. If you wish to submit work samples, after applying online, you may provide a link. Or you can mail or ship the material. Make sure your name is clearly marked on the material. Material will not be returned, so please do not send any originals.

The deadline for receiving applications online is Friday, November 17, 2006.

Selection Process

Once all of the applications are reviewed, candidates will be selected for an interview. Only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted by e-mail by Friday, December 3, 2006.

The criteria for selecting interview candidates are:
Demonstrated work experience
Life experiences
Evidence of interest and commitment to a TV journalism career
Reference checks
